If in doubt, call 111

111

You can call 111 when you need medical help fast but it's not a 999 emergency. It's a fast and easy way to get the right help, whatever the time.

The NHS 111 service is staffed by a team of fully trained advisers, supported by experienced nurses and paramedics. They will ask you questions to assess your symptoms, then give you the healthcare advice you need or direct you straight to the local service that can help you best.

NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, every day. Calls are free from landlines and mobile phones.

Call 111 if:

  • You need medical help fast but it's not a 999 emergency (but if NHS 111 advisers think you need an ambulance, they will be able to arrange for one to be sent to you)
  • You think you need to go to A&E or need another NHS urgent care service
  • You do not have a GP or know who to call
  • You need health information or reassurance about what to do next
  • You need dental help urgently and you don't have a regular dentist
