Dentists

Everyone should have access to affordable, good-quality dental care. The NHS provides all the necessary treatment that you need to keep your mouth, teeth and gums in a healthy condition. This includes:

  • Dentures
  • Root canal treatment
  • Crowns and bridges
  • Orthodontics for those under 18 years old.

It is recommended you register with a dentist.  Simply find a practice that's convenient for you, and remember to ask whether the practice provides NHS care. To find a local NHS dentist visit the Hampshire Dental Helpline website or call 0300 7900 280.

NHS dental charges from 1 April 2012

Band 1 course of treatment – £17.50

This covers an examination, diagnosis (including xrays), advice on how to prevent future problems, a scale and polish if needed, and application of fluoride varnish or fissure sealant.

Band 2 course of treatment – £48.00

This covers everything listed in Band 1 above plus any further treatment such as fillings, root canal work or removal of teeth.

Band 3 course of treatment – £209.00

This covers everything listed in Bands 1 and 2 above plus crowns, dentures and bridges.

NHS dental treatment is free for:

  • Children and young adults under 18 years old
  • Pregnant women
  • People receiving certain benefits
  • Some students with a HC2 certificate.

If you have a low income, you may be able to get help with NHS costs through the NHS Low Income Scheme (LIS).
