Equality and Diversity

Equality and diversity is central to the work of the CCG to ensure equality of access to and treatment by the services that we commission on behalf of the population of south eastern Hampshire. 

The CCG’s commitment to equality and diversity is driven by the principles of the NHS Constitution, the Equality Act 2010 and the Human Rights Act 1998, and also the duties of the Health and Social Care Act 2012 to reduce health inequalities, promote patient involvement and involve and consult with the public. 

We use the NHS Equality Delivery System 2 (EDS2) to help us to meet the requirements of the Public Sector Equality Duty which is set out in the Equality Act 2010. There are three strands to the Public Sector Equality Duty. These are to: 

  • eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment, victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Equality Act
  • advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
  • foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not

Our 2018/21 Equality and Diversity Strategy sets out our commitment to taking equality, diversity and human rights into account in everything we do whether its commissioning services, employing people, developing policies, communicating with or engaging local people on our work. 

To support our strategy we set three equality objectives for the next four years from our most recent assessment against the objectives of EDS2. These objectives are:

  • Objective 1: Improve access to healthcare for everyone routinely and when they need medical help fast but it is not a life-threatening situation.
  • Objective 2: Strengthen our consultation and engagement to ensure all protected characteristics have a voice in our work.
  • Objective 3: Work with all levels of staff to ensure the CCG has a representative and supported workforce and inclusive leadership.

We report our progress on each of these objectives in our Annual Equalities Report.

We undertake annual analysis against the indicators of the NHS Workforce Race Equality Standard. This information is not in the public domain due to low workforce numbers.  A report is available for the combined workforce of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Partnership of CCGs (of which we are a member).
